In a past posting I asked:
"Ladies, do you always get what you want or at least expect for Valentines Day?"
Taking into perspective the current world events, the question seems quite insignificant now.
Last year was probably the craziest Valentine’s Day in our memorable history. Imagine a day dedicated to love, hugs and kisses and most of the world was thrust into a pandemic that keeping everyone apart from each other.
Curfews were initiated and going to public places was off limits. Don't forget the new fashion trend that became a staple in everyone's wardrobe. Like it or not, wearing a mask was pertinent then and is now pertinent to our daily outdoor & indoor style.
We still live with the pandemic. We still must socially distance.
We still need to wear masks.
The economy is a wreck and extravagance is almost non existent when it comes to
shopping for necessities much less gifts. Finances have always dictated our spending habits.
Now more than ever has choosing what to portion out your money for has become a priority. Housing, food, transportation, and heath expenses just to name a few supersede all the many wants we crave.
Depending on what part of the country you live in, a romantic dinner for two [out] may be possible. If dining out isn't an option, plan 'B' just might stand for 'Better to be together at home'. Get out the pots and pans, good dishes, and wine glasses if you have them and cook your meal together.
Valentines Day doesn't only have to be for two. Get the whole family involved. Kids love arts and crafts projects. Make your own decorations and presents and exchange gifts. Let's
not forget that love is not about flowers, candy, and gifts. It is about wanting and expecting first and foremost your heart, undying love.
We still live with the pandemic. We still must socially distance.
We still need to wear masks.
We still need to wear masks.
More important than the inconveniences we have endured are the Essential Workers who worked round the clock shifts in an over crowded environment full of disparity and sadness.
Healthcare workers who in some cases were afraid to go home for fear of spreading the virus to family members. Employees who lost jobs and income because of business closures creating an inability to pay rent, buy food, and pay debts. Last but not least, the Patients who were lost due to the virus. Loved ones who spent their last few hours without family and alone in a hospital ward.
The COVID 19 virus has kept us hostage. While the quarantine has pushed us all far apart and together equally, we are into a year of living with the pandemic. The vaccine is giving us more hope than we had last year at this time. With patience, empathy, passion and love we shall achieve a more healthier nation.
We still live with the pandemic. We still must socially distance.
We still need to wear masks.
We still need to wear masks.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
